You uncover the gem, and the room fills with a ghostly light.

This spell enchants a gem to emit a magical flame. The flame is similar in brightness and appearance to a torch, but creates no heat and consumes no oxygen. A continual flame can be covered and hidden, but not smothered or quenched; it even works under water.

When you cast this spell, you can specify a command word which turns the flame on and off.


Material Component:
The gem to be enchanted, a ruby worth at least 30 gp. Larger and finer rubies are said to produce better flames.
